
Brian Baker is a singer/songwriter/producer living in the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne, Australia. Brian has a passion for the environment and Buddhism – themes evident in his songs, music and videos.

After moving to Australia from New Zealand in 1980, he performed with many Australian bands, securing a Sony recording deal with “The Ones” in 1986 after signing a publishing deal with Rondor Music. Around this time he scored his first song placement on the second Un Canny X-Men album, with the song “Colour Your Answer Blue”. After writing and recording top 20 single “Heart” with The Ones he went on to co write the score for the movie 'Rikki and Pete” with Eddie Rayner from Split Enz.

Eddie and Brian continued to work together as “The Makers”, releasing 2 CDs through Warner's East West label, including the hit single and video “Big Picture”. Together with drummer Michael Barker, they toured Australia and New Zealand with the B52's and appeared on TV shows like MTV, Countdown, Hey Hey It's Saturday, Tonight Live and The Midday Show.

Brian has performed at countless shows and is writing and recording songs and music at the highest level of his profession. He offers that expertise from his recording studio “The Bakery”, producing other artists, co-writing and assisting with songwriting and recording. He still works closely with Eddie Rayner and has recently re-recorded several Makers tracks along with his excellent new material.

Brian also produces artists in his studio “The Bakery” - bringing out the very best in songs and performances for the likes of Cathy Dobson, Michelle Chandler, Ethan Famer and many more.

Dave McFarlane is an award-winning songwriter, guitarist and vocalist with five independent CD releases & regular national radio airplay. With over 25 years performance experience, he has appeared at major festivals and events throughout Australia. An accomplished acoustic & electric blues and slide guitarist who also plays harmonica, mandolin, electric & double bass (plus a little cello) Dave specializes in composing in open tunings and counts traditional music styles plus rock bands of the 70’s and 80’s as his early influences.

His latest project through Covid-19 lockdown has been some stunning outdoor videos featuring new versions of older songs with the ‘HouseBand’ comprising daughter Elizabeth, her partner Cam Fallaw and nephew Jordan Scotney.

Jacqui Rutten is a composer/singer/multi-instrumentalist with a registered small business Sacred Stage. Jacqui organises, composes for, and performs concerts, mainly for charity. The concerts are unamplified and Jacqui composes with pen and paper, to be as nature, part of nature. She began busking at 14 years of age, completed post-graduate music studies in Australia and Central Java, with the help of a BP Award and government grants. Jacqui has worked for ABC Radio, Chamber Made Opera, the Melbourne Composers League, churches, cathedrals, galleries, international music festivals in Australia and overseas. She was Composer in Residence in Ireland in 2019.

For me, instrumental music has always been a natural instinct. There are no words, so each listener has a unique experience. The language of music sings purely and connects directly. The most difficult thing about writing music is coming up with a song title. How can I sum up such a wide range of emotions in a few words?

I've played piano since age 6 and drums since age 11. I studied music at the VCA. During my time there, I was exposed to many different musical styles, and through this, I discovered my musical voice. Piano and Strings complement each other perfectly. Once you play a note on the piano - you can either let it ring out, or stop it. Strings can do the opposite - they can start a note whisper-soft, crescendo and tell a story with dynamics alone. These two opposing ideas work in harmony in my music.

Liminality is Cath Connelly (Celtic harp), Greg Hunt (Violin/Mandolin) and Jules Vines (Keyboard/Vocal).

Their new album 'Brigid’s Mantle' is their fifth studio album and mcelebrates a depth of musical interplay and richness which has become a signature of the trio’s style.

**Cath Connelly** has been playing the Celtic harp professionally since 1998. She is now considered one of Australia’s leading Celtic harpers, with her career flourishing sinceclaiming the 3rd prize (seniors division) in the 2004 Turlough O’Carolan Harp Competition, Nobber, County Meath, Ireland. She is well known for performances that invite audiences to engage in a deeper sense of being and in true Celtic fashion, Cath incorporates storytelling into engaging concerts that span Irish folklore, Celtic tradition, music and spirituality.

**Greg Hunt** has been playing violin, mandolin and mandola for over 30 years and has established a deserved reputation as one of Melbourne’s premiere live and session players. He is just as much at home in a classical recital as he is at a folk festival or playing bluegrass or country. He has graced the stages of major festivals, concert halls and venues throughout the world and has performed on many albums over the years.

**Jules Vines** is The newest addition to Liminality, Jules studied classical piano, singing, theory and musicianship through Trinity College London. She completed a Bachelor of Arts and Dip Ed degree at Monash University majoring in Music and Geography 1991. She has since travelled and worked extensively throughout Ireland, UK, South America, Russia and Central Asia. She currently teaches privately in the Dandenongs near Melbourne and hosts her own radio show ‘Classically Saturday’ on Community Radio’s 3MDR 97.1FM.

Elizabeth McFarlane was humming before she could talk. She learnt to read from the Seekers lyrics book. She originates from a musical family, growing up in the Dandenong Ranges amidst musical gatherings and festivals. Her formal training spans specialist voice work and a degree in musical theatre. Elizabeth works professionally in bands around Australia, including Miss Lizzy and the Night Owls, where her original compositions and powerful voice has blown audiences away. She has shared the stage with Mahalia Barnes, Claire Bowditch and Brian Nankervis.

Elizabeth is also a dedicated teacher of voice and music theatre where here greatest pleasure is seeing her students develop both vocally and personally.

Miss Lizzy


Tina Nabb is a born storyteller, who only came to song writing after picking up a ukulele once the kids left home. After honing her skills at singalongs, festival jams and open mic sessions for a few years, she won the Minstrel competition at the Maldon Folk Festival in 2015. This came with a prize of gigs at the 2016 festival, which is where Tina successfully launched her CD, ‘Town and Country’ - which is not a country album. The title track pays homage to the joys of living in Upper Ferntree Gully ‘with a mountain in my backyard and a highway at my gate’.

Sometimes reflective, other times hilarious, Tina’s song writing draws deeply on her observations of human nature and addresses a wide range of subjects from cyber bullying (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) to how living with teenagers can drive you crazy (Hissy Fit).
